GREEN OUTLOOK WALKATHON

October 26, 10 a.m.

COMPOST: RECYCLE YOURSELF

Be part of the green revolution! Walk your way to a better tomorrow.

The upper west side is hard at work making the future greener and better. Schools are composting. Science classes are focusing on the environment. Greenhouses are sprouting on roofs. And the community of Riverside Park is trying to make NYC's first carbon-neutral, composting, solar-powered restroom.

Who wants to join us? Kids! Adults! Anyone interested in being green, recycling, sustainability, parks, greenways and the future.

What are we doing? We are raising funds and awareness for the Green Outlook, NYC's first composting, solar-powered public restroom, along the Hudson River Greenway.

When? Saturday, October 26, 10 a.m.

Where? Route begins and ends at the future site of Green Outlook in Riverside Park, along the Hudson River Greenway, south of the 96th Street Red Clay Tennis courts near 95th Street (Map).

There are two routes available a 2K and a 5K. Both routes will bring you back to the starting point for the tennis carnival.

After the walkathon there will be free tennis carnival for kids under 10 years of age at the courts from 12 - 2 p.m.

How? Easy! Sign up online

How much? $20 per individual (includes a GO t-shirt); $40 for a family (includes 3 GO t-shirts)

What, exactly, is Green Outlook? It is a visionary model of sustainability and green technologies. Green Outlook will replace an abandoned parking lot overlooking the Hudson River with much-needed facilities. The complex will include a new green, solar-powered park maintenance building, new park land with a sweeping vista, a wildflower meadow hosting a solar array, and its signature feature: a public restroom serving users of Riverside Park, the Hudson River Greenway and the public red-clay tennis courts. The restrooms will be green-roofed, use solar power and composting technologies to create a sustainable, off-grid system. The treated compost will be used to fertilize the wild flower meadow, the ultimate form of recycling. Compost: Recycle Yourself.

I you can't make the Walkathon, you can still make a donation by visiting Green Outlook.

Green Outlook is a Riverside Park Fund initiative powered by the RCTA
